This association was formed in 1997 to further the research of surnames with the origin of Marställer or as it is more commonly known in Germany, Marsteller. This rare surname is of German origin and is found, historically speaking, almost exclusively in a small region of what is now West Central Germany.
To date, there have been three primary Marsteller family lines identified that can trace their roots to the following towns in Germany:
Pfungstadt, Hesse, Germany (approx. 25 kilometers south of Frankfurt)
Gruningen (now part of Polheim), Hesse, Germany (approx. 25 kilometers north of Frankfurt)
Pliezhausen, Wurttemburg, Germany (a couple hours south of Frankfurt)
Each of these families have traced their ancestry back to the 1500/1600’s. To date, no connection has been found between the three families, however given the close proximity of the locations and the rarity of the surname, a connection is certainly possible and still being investigated.
With the huge emigration of the Palatinate*, the Marsteller family has spread across America and indeed the globe. *the geographic name of the region where these towns were found during the 1600/1700's
This website is dedicated by the Association in memory of all our ancestors.
