CIVIL WAR HISTORY

James Madison Mosteller (b. Dec-29-1831, Catawba County, NC), Company E, 39th North Carolina Infantry enlisted in Clay County, NC at age 30 on November 6, 1861. Mustered in as Musican (Drummer). Reported present during Feb-April 1862. Died in hospital at Loudon, Tennessee December 15, 1862 of disease where he is buried in a Confederate cemetery. Listed in "North Carolina Troops 1861-1865" as Madison Mostiller on page 155.
His brother was Russell Mosteller (b. 1839), Private, Company A, 29th TENN Infantry, died 1861 at Petersburg, VA
